How DNA works

The full process, for scouts. Parent or athlete? Read the family version.

01Measure, film, evaluate

Athletes log their sport's measurable tests (at least 5 of them, and each sport sets its own list and its own minimum) and upload at least 3 clips. An out-of-state human scout who holds that sport grades every trait from scratch and locks the report. Nothing is published automatically and nothing invents measurables.

02DNA Score, 0 to 100

Calculated only after at least one human-locked evaluation. A weighted blend of:

  • Position ELO15%
  • Film quality3%
  • Recent form2%
  • Human-checked trait grades40%
  • Verified production, adjusted for classification10%
  • Verified measurables against sourced benchmarks15%
  • Coach reviews15%

Unverified measurables count at half. Measurables are compared only against sourced benchmark ranges; when no sourced benchmark exists, that part's weight moves to the other parts. Several evaluations combine by scout weight: (SAS / 50)^1.5.

You pay for a report. You cannot buy a ranking, star, or offer.

03Scout Authority Score, SAS 0 to 100

Background (up to 70) plus Performance (up to 30) plus any admin adjustment, kept between 0 and 100.

Background starts at 10 and adds your strongest track (coaching, playing, scouting, media) plus smaller shares of the others. Within a track, your best entry counts fully and the rest at 25%, capped at 50 per track.

Tenure counts with a curve, T(y) = 0.4 + 0.6 × (1 − e^(−y / 6)), so year one already counts 40% and the rest builds over roughly 12 seasons. Each entry is worth level × role × T(years). Unverified entries count at 50% until an admin verifies them.

Performance rewards volume, agreement with other scouts, accuracy against real outcomes and note quality, minus reliability deductions.

04Scout pay and membership

The first 25 locked evaluations pay $5 each; Expert Evaluators skip this. After that, pay follows SAS:

  • SAS 0 to 29Tier 1$5
  • SAS 30 to 44Tier 2$10
  • SAS 45 to 59Tier 3$15
  • SAS 60 to 69Tier 4$20
  • SAS 70 and upTier 5$25

Scouts pay $15 a month to receive offers, only after they are cleared. Waivers are possible, and founding scouts get 3 months waived. Finished work is always paid. Resolved in-band outcomes add $5; a Notable Call adds $25.

Paid and extra evaluations go first to Experts and to scouts with SAS 60 or more and 25 or more completed evaluations.

05The blind queue

One offer at a time. Scouts see an anonymous ID, position, class, state, classification, height, weight and film. No name, school, photo or contact.

Offers expire after 15 minutes; accepted jobs are due in 48 hours. 3 free skips per 20 offers. Offers that expire unseen and conflict skips never count. A skip rate over 60% in the last 30 offers pauses the queue for 24 hours. Scouts never get athletes from their own state or from schools they were at in the last 5 years.

A report can be locked only with at least 3 timestamped notes and 70% of the film watched. Reports finished in under 5 minutes of active time are flagged low effort.

06Rankings board

Only athletes with a human-locked evaluation, active SPIN Plus and consent (a parent for athletes under 18, the athlete themself at 18 and over) appear. Film is never shown on public pages.

Opinions only. No guarantee of college interest or offers.
